Treasure Hunt

Dear Abby, John and Esther, I want to share one of my favorite memories of Charlie. It was late last summer when we all got together for pizza at a neighbor's house. Charlie agreed to join me on an impromptu treasure hunt throughout the house. We started in the kitchen by spying a small covered wicker basket in the corner. Thinking there could be great bounty in the basket; we ran to it and hovered in anticipation. "What treasure could it be?" I asked him. I reached down to lift the top, and then quickly removed it. We eagerly looked inside. I hollered "Huh, what’s this!?” "Onions!” We both laughed heartily, picking up one of the onions in disbelief. We proceeded to do this in several other locations of the house, with great eagerness at each stop--but finding only soaps, linens and other hidden household gems. With each new treasure chest discovery, Charlie was full of hope and excitement. And when we opened them, he was never disappointed, only giggling at the silliness of our game. Recalling this memory reminds me of the great joy he brought to life. I am thinking of you all every day! Much love, Dan
