A boy and his family touched an entire community

My family primarily knew of Charlie and the Waller family through our following the Friends of Charlie blog, but our oldest daughter also attends Marble with Esther. We would often see Charlie at school in his mother's arms as we were picking her up, or attending a special event, and I noticed that Charlie never seemed to fuss. Despite the sensations I knew he must have been experiencing, due to his diagnosis, he was most often smiling, or seemed intrigued with something around him...perhaps waiting for his big sister to come out and greet him :) I knew (from the blog), that Charlie and I shared a love of animals, so I was not surprised when a mutual family friend that happened to be watching Charlie one day, brought him to our front door as she was dropping our daughter off, because he wanted to meet our boxer, Bryan. Bryan is a typical boxer in that he loves to love, and will lick people into oblivion if they don't deter him. His excitement was met by an equally exuberant and beautiful young smile. These are my limited personal memories of Charlie Waller, but beyond these, his story, his spirit, his family's courage and strength, and their commitment to help others, have touched us all, and I am sure that his legacy will live on in the hearts of thousands. All of us watching have learned a very important lesson from Charlie: LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, and when the going gets tough, slap on an eye patch, look your obstacles head on, and shout, "aaaaaaaaaaarrggghhh!" :) May your hearts be filled with the love and memories you were privileged to share with your precious little angel, and the pain of his passing give way to the comfort of knowing that he will be with you always, and, it sounds like, wanted little more than for his family and friends to be happy, and live on.
